You Need To Stand Out And Keep Players Around To Be Successful. Fun Alone Doesn’t Cut It.

You have great game ideas but ideas by themselves are not getting you the support you need to make your game happen.

Perhaps you already have a fun game, but you are having trouble standing out among the thousands of games in the app store.

Perhaps you already have a game that players enjoy, but you are struggling with keeping those players around and turning them into fans that will spend the time and money to make your game profitable.

A Successful Game Needs Much More Than Fun Game Mechanics.

It Also Needs Art, Story, and Community:

You need an art style that helps your game stand out and you need a game experience with enough personality, storytelling, and community interaction to make players want to stick around and spend money in your game.

The Art-Fun-Story-Community Recipe:

  1. ART is what first catches your players’ eye and makes them want to take a closer look.
  2. Finding FUN stuff to do is what makes them want to stay more than a few seconds.
  3. Having a STORY that they relate to makes them want to keep coming back for a while.
  4.  Feeling part of a COMMUNITY they care for makes them want to stay for years.

Combining fun game mechanics with art, story, and community interaction is what has made MMOs (Massively Multiplayer Online Games) the games with the highest level of involvement for the longest periods of time; and some of the most profitable. But you don’t need a hard-core MMO for the recipe to work, a lot of the same fun-art-story-community combination can be applied to casual games and apps to make them more engaging and successful.

I can help you do that.

And who the hell am I? Why can I help you?

Disney Veteran + Start Up Experience

I’ve  been developing games and entertainment for 20 years, and I’ve spent the bulk of these 20 years as an artist, art director, and creative director at Disney building mostly Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOs) for kids and families. This experience taught me the importance of combining art, fun, story, and community interaction to create great long-lasting game experiences.

More recently I have shifted gears and started working for Start Ups where I have learned the importance of iterating fast, avoiding waste, and staying focused and connected to one’s audience.  It is essential to provide your players with great experiences, but also to respond quickly to their needs.

Here’s a link to some of my work and a link to my Linked In profile with a more detailed account of my professional experience, if you are interested.

How can I help you.

Develop a Strong Concept that Gets Your Idea Funded.

If you have a great game idea, I can help you solidify your idea and create compelling images with story and personality that communicate your concept more convincingly.

Develop a Prototype that Connects with Potential Players and Investors.

If you are developing a prototype, I can help you build assets and scenarios with art and story that bring personality, connection, and meaning; elements that will be essential in making your game successful. Prototyping is not just about testing functionality and game mechanics but about testing all the essential parts of a compelling experience. You don’t need polished art and story, but you need enough of them to figure out if they are working in creating an experience that players connect with.

Make Your Game More Engaging.

If you have a fun game but it is not getting noticed or not keeping players engaged over time, I can help you strengthen your art, story, and sense of community in your game to make it stand out and engage player in the longer term.

A call could make your game better.

The combination of art-fun-story-community can really make your game more engaging. Contact me to schedule a Skype call or just send me a link to your game if you already have one.

It won’t cost you a thing and you’ll get good ideas on how to make your game more engaging. It is easy. Just click the contact me link.

“Felipe is both an incredibly talented artist and a highly strategic thinker. His input was crucial to the early planning stages of our game that teaches young kids about computer science. He showed as much passion for our game as we (the founders) did! In my experience Felipe’s level of energy, attention to detail and thoughtfulness are rare.”

“Felipe is an excellent Creative Director. He has great vision and communicates his ideas and thoughts effectively to all types of audiences. “Felipe’s creative skills, guidance, and counsel have been invaluable to the work we’ve done on Toontown. Under his direction the game has produced fun new content, spruced up existing play, added more storytelling, and just plain looked better. His ability to prototype fresh settings and technologies is without equal — he has an innate sense of what will work. For all the art he has provided, the stories he has shaped, the tones he has set, and the laughs he has found, this virtual world is all the better for his part in it!”

And the Cheesy Personal Picture!

I know you were dying to know a few personal details about myself:  I am a married dad, father of two boys living in Los Angeles, and yes, I am mexican, born in Mexico City. We don’t really were hats like this but it is still fun to embrace the stereotypes sometimes!
