The Magic School was a concept for a game to train teachers how to design better curriculum for their students. It was based on the LDC methodology (Literary Design Collaborative). I worked with the serious games’ company BackCode as a concept artist, and later as an art director and creative director developing prototypes, stories and game designs for the game.
Character Design
Here are some of the characters I designed for the game. There were 4 kinds of characters: avatars that represented the player, magic teachers who were NPCs that gave challenges and taught lessons to the player, gremlins which were assistants to whom the player needed to give instructions to accomplish different tasks, and the robots, which were trying to ruin education and make it about mindless memorization and standardized testing.
